Renée m. chung


Renée M. Chung is the Director of Diversity at Village Community School, a K-8 independent school in New York City. Passionate about equitable and inclusive schools, her work focuses on educating all students about issues regarding race, social justice, and other diversity-related themes. As the strategic leader in diversity initiatives at VCS, Ms. Chung begins working with students when they enter VCS in Kindergarten on identity development and cultural awareness and continues to support them in this work through 8th Grade. Ms. Chung offers parent workshops on a variety of diversity-related. Her work with faculty and staff ranges from small-group professional development to all-staff meetings. Additionally, she partners with teachers on curriculum development and cultural competence.

Outside of her work at VCS, Ms. Chung is also a founding member and continuing Board Member at Invictus Preparatory Charter School in East New York, Brooklyn, which is a Grade 5-8 independent charter school. This work fulfills part of Ms. Chung’s personal mission to help provide increased educational opportunities to those who would otherwise not have them. Prior to joining the Senior Leadership Team at VCS, Ms. Chung was the Founding Director of Operations at KIPP Infinity Elementary School in West Harlem. Previous to holding this post, Ms. Chung was the Recruitment Coordinator at Prep for Prep, of which she is a proud alumna.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she is a graduate of Trinity School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology at Amherst College.

kevin brown


Kevin Brown joined the Invictus Prep Board in August of 2011. In addition to serving on the Invictus Board, Kevin is currently a Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at Credibly, a financial technology marketplace platform that provides working capital money small businesses in the United States. Prior to Credibly, Kevin worked at Citigroup in New York for 8+ years across Citi’s Consumer and Institutional businesses in Product Management, Strategy and Marketing, with his most recent role heading Global Mobile Product Management & Digital Innovation in Citi’s +$6Bn Cash Management business across 97 countries.

Kevin started his career as a Senior Associate at RF|Binder Partners, a public & investor relations consultancy, and is a hands-on mentor, advisor and board member to numerous tech start-ups and education organizations in New York City. Kevin received his Bachelor’s degree from Marist College and an MBA from Pace University – Lubin School of Business. An avid skier and traveler, Kevin lives in Manhattan with his wife and daughter.



stefan atkinson


Stefan Atkinson has served on the Invictus Prep Board since 2011.  Stefan is a litigation associate at the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York. Before joining Cravath, Stefan served as a law clerk to the Hon. Diana Gribbon Motz of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Hon. Richard M. Berman of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Stefan previously worked at CNN as a production assistant and associate producer for Lou Dobbs and Wolf Blitzer.

Stefan earned his A.B., cum laude, from Harvard University and his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan. He lives with his wife and two sons in Westchester. 



charles guerrero


Charles Guerrero’s life journey started in the James Monroe Houses in the Soundview area of the Bronx. The first act of his professional life in San Francisco was an incredibly fun time, and very entrepreneurial in nature: as a Co-Director and Founder of the Red Rocket Theater Company, and working for unique small businesses such as Millenium Stones and Bruno Brothers restaurant.  Mr. Guerrero has spent the last 13 years interested in educational access. Most of his work centers on predominantly low-income students of color, and this is where he believea the bulk of the work still needs to be done. Mr. Guerrero is interested in how we educate this nation's children, particularly here in New York. He currently works for Prep for Prep; he started as Director of College Guidance, and is currently Director of Leadership Development Opportunities. He also serves on the Board for Invictus Preparatory Charter School in East New York, and am a trustee of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School.  Mr. Guerrero is as alumnus of the Fieldston School and Harvard College.


luke justice


Luke is the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives for Equal Opportunity Schools, a national education non-profit dedicated to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed in advanced high school coursework.  

Prior to joining EOS, Luke worked at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as a consultant on the Measures of Effective Teaching project. Luke analyzed the use of student perception surveys and developed a set of strategic recommendations for how the Foundation could help scale the adoption of student surveys in teacher evaluation systems. Luke has also consulted for Education Pioneers and 2Revolutions, an education design firm that launches new schooling models. Prior to his work in education, he served as a Vice President for Aon Corporation, a global risk management company.

Luke currently serves as the Board Treasurer and head of the Finance Committee for Invictus Preparatory Charter School. He is a founding board member.
